Alan Hill, Chef Patron for both The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley and The Devonshire Arms at Beeley...
...celebrates the abundance of good quality local produce, much of which comes from the Chatsworth estate - this is reflected in the quality of the food served at The Devonshire Arms.
Alan joined Devonshire Hotels in 2006, bringing a whole new approach to the kitchens, revamping menus and ensuring the use of local produce from quality suppliers. Alan became Patron in 2007, supported by an enthusiastic and energetic front of house team who implement the warm welcome, attention to detail and high standards that Alan demands.
After leaving High Peak College, Buxton (now the University of Derby Buxton) with a professional catering qualification, Alan’s career has gone from strength to strength:
Alan has worked in some of the finest eateries in the country. From his first appointment as Sauce Chef in Baslow Hall’s renowned Fishers restaurant, to the celebrated Juniper restaurant in Altringham, Cheshire. In 2002, Alan embarked on a new challenge and moved to Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire to help set-up Rems Café Bar Restaurant. After having been involved from its formative beginnings, Alan successfully built an excellent reputation for both himself and the restaurant.
In 2003, Alan returned to fine cuisine, taking the job as Head Chef for the Michelin starred Box Tree in Ilkley. In late 2003, Alan was head-hunted by a local businessman to assist in set up and running of new restaurant/brasserie venture as Head Chef at The Old Tramshed Bar and Restaurant in Yorkshire. Finally in 2006 Alan joined Devonshire Hotels and Restaurants as Head Chef for The Devonshire Arms at Beeley, seeing it through heavy refurbishment. In 2007, Alan was promoted to Chef Patron, and in 2008 when the group acquired The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley, this was also placed under Alan’s control.
